Parents and educators agree the Internet is an incredible
new vehicle for children - providing unlimited resources
that enhance education. However it has made accessibility to
pornography incredibly easy. A recent study showed that 9 in
10 kids ages 8-16 yrs. have viewed porn online, most of them
accidentally while doing homework. We must have - and
utilize tools - to protect our families from materials that
are inappropriate and even dangerous for them.
Good filtering and monitoring software coupled with good
parental supervision is the best weapon to protect our
families online. With effective blocking technology, we can
safeguard our families from unwanted material including
sexually-explicit images, violence, gambling, alcohol
advertising, and ideological extremism.
Child safety on the Internet begins with responsible
parenting. It is imperative that we take advantage of
software that helps to protect our children and ourselves
from the dark side of cyberspace.
